GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING CONTENT

In general, the course will cover the following points:
– International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)
– International Maritime Solid Bulk Code (IMSBC) – International Code for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods (SOLAS)
– International Code for the Safe Transport of Grain in Bulk (International
International Grain Code)
– Safety Code for Ships Carrying Timber Deck Cargoes
– MARPOL Annex V – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Wastes from Ships

COURSE OBJECTIVES :

General objective
The main objective of this training course is to teach the regulatory and technical tools to facilitate the safe loading, stowage, shipping and unloading of solid bulk cargoes, in compliance with the International Maritime Solid Bulk Code (IMSBC Code) and other international standards.

Specific objectives
Specifically, the course aims to :
– teach the regulations governing the handling of hazardous bulk cargoes;
– teach techniques for handling hazardous bulk cargoes: better describe the categories, characteristics, hazards, cleanliness of holds, stowage and segregation, weather precautions, loading, precautions to be taken, ventilation, transport, unloading and cleaning
– teach the implementation of emergency plans in the event of a major accident involving hazardous materials;
– disclose best practices for handling hazardous bulk cargo.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This training is organized for managerial staff (operational, middle or senior management) of public or private companies in charge of handling hazardous bulk cargoes (Minerals, Fertilizers, Cement, Sulfur, Cereals, Sugar, etc….) in targeted ports in West and Central Africa.

A total of 25 participants are expected for this training.

 

TEACHING METHOD :

To achieve its objectives, this training session will alternate didactic and pedagogical sessions of explanation and exchange of experience, sharing of technical knowledge and practical advice. A port site visit will be organized at the end of the session.

An assessment is planned at the end of the Session.
